Rishikesh

Rishikesh is a city in Dehradun district in Uttarakhand. Rishikesh is just 25 km far from the Haridwar. It is located where the Ganges River comes down from the Himalayas. Legends

Rishikesh means 'lord of the senses' which is name of the “Lord Vishnu”. The city gets its name after Lord Vishnu who appeared as Rishikesh to 'Raibhya Rishi', after his long tapasya. According to Hindu mythology Lord Rama did penance here for killing Ravana and his younger brother Lakshman crossed the river Ganges, at a point, where the present 'Lakshman Jhula' is located.

Places to Visit In Rishikesh

Lakshman Jhula & Ram Jhula : Lakshman Jhula is one of the most popular places in Rishikesh. This bridge running from one bank of Ganga to other. Lakshman Jhula is the landmark of the city. The Lakshman younger brother of Lord Ram crossed a bridge made of jute ropes here on river Ganga. Lakshman Jhula a great place to visit because of the view from the bridge itself is panoramic. The 13 storied temple is located near Lakshman Jhula where the idols of several Gods and Goddesses are kept. The green mountains, cool breeze and the waters running below the bridge all these together make an amazing atmosphere. You can also feed the fish in the river. You can also take a boat ride in the river below. The view in which Lakshman Jhula is in the foreground and green mountains are in the background makes a beautiful scene. You can also feed the fish while you are in the boat. Ram Jhula is similar in structure as Lakshman Jhula Ram Jhula is a recent addition to the city.

Bharat Mandir : One of the oldest and famous temple of Rishikesh is “Bharat Mandir”. The temple is devoted to Lord Vishnu. It is situated in the on the Banks of the Ganges. Rishi Rabhya did his penance at this holy spot. The temple was Built by Adiguru Shankra Chrya arround 12th centuray,which is later destroyed by Tamur lane in 1398.

Triveni Ghat : The main ghat in the town area where most of the pilgrims wash their sins by taking a dip in the holy water of sacred Ganga River. It is believed that the three streams of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati are flowing together underground at this point. Every evening hundreds of pilgrims attend the Arti of Goddess Ganga which performed at Triveni Ghat.

Geeta Bhawan : Geeta Bhawan is one of the oldest temple situated by the side of Laxman Jhula on the banks of sacred Ganges in Rishikesh. Gita Ashram that was set up in 1950's. It is well-known for its Paintings, statues, scenes from the epics like Mahabharata and Ramayana on the walls of Ashram. Gita Bhavan is committed as a Museum for puranic and mythological consciousness for the general public. Pravachans, keertans are a regular activities in the ashram, You can enjoy bhakti sangeet here in the evenings. The Ashram also has some hundred rooms for lodging for pilgrims.

Nilkanth Mahadev Temple : The famous temple of Nilkanth Mahdev is situated at the height 5500 feet at a hill top above Swarg ashram. Thousands of devotees visit Neelkanth Mahadev every month throughout the year. Legends say that this was the place where lord Shiva had drank venom which had come out from Samudra Manthan. After drinking it, his neck had turned blue with the venom and therefore he was called 'Neelkanth', the one with blue neck. To visit this temple jeeps are available from Lakshman Jhula.

Swarg Ashram : The place is one of the most active places in the Rishikesh. There are lots of Ashrams, temples, shops, restaurants here.

Shivanand Ashram : The Divine Life Society Swami Shivanand set up Divine Life Society in 1936 in Rishikesh. The ashram organizes regular yoga classes, one can pursue from here studies in texts like Upanishads and Gita. The place has many other ashrams where pilgrims can reside and take part in the activities like yoga, bhakti sangeet pravachans and other ashram activities.

How To Reach Rishikesh

By Road : Rishikesh is 230 kms far from delhi. It takes only six hours to reach Rishikesh and it is also comfortable.

By Railway : By railway it is good if you travel to Haridwar by Railway and after that you can go by road to Rishikesh (30 min journey). There are many trains running between Haridwar and Delhi, for example: Shatabadi Express, Jan Shatabdi, AC Special Express and Mussoorie Express.

By Air : Jolly Grant Airport is the nearest Airport to Rishikesh which is located 21kms far from Rishikesh. Flights are easily available from Delhi from Indian Airlines and other private carriers.   • Parking, Toll and Entry fee are directly payed by customer Kindly check the vehicle before realizing. We are not responsible for any loss of bags/articles.

  • Sightseeing as per the itinerary (wherever the Vehicle would be allowed to Go.)

  • Haridwar Taxi reserves the right to give you a similar car if the car you booked is unavailable.

  • All the additional charges will be payable directly to driver by cash.
